So Does it Matter? (post election thoughts)

The election is over.  Did your preferred candidate(s) win? Lose?  Did the issue items get resolved as you expected? Some are certainly pleased with how the election went (you’ve told me); and some are disappointed.

Does it matter how the elections ended?  To say ‘no’ is to ignore reality or give off the attitude of sour grapes.  Yes, they do matter to our everyday lives in many ways: taxes, jobs, government access to our lives, moral issues, etc.  In those aspects they matter a lot.

But, as believers in Jesus Christ, do they matter as to what we’ve been called to do?  Probably not.

Regardless of who is “in charge” from a human perspective of government in our great country, we are still doing what our Master has asked of us. The Scripture says,

“Go and make disciples…” (Matt 28:19)

“…to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Phil 1:21)

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…”  (Prov 9:10)

As we wake up today, our goal as believers is no different than what is was yesterday.  Whether we live in America, Kenya, an Asian country, or Chili our goal is to live for Jesus Christ, spread the News of Him to those we contact daily, and fear the Lord.

We are also to pray for those in authority over us.  Let’s bind together as a body to pray for our president, country, and elected officials – we’re commanded to do this.

And let’s not forget we have a “higher” call – the call to live for One.  No election will change that and no other mission is as worthy or satisfying.
