Googling for God

A recent Google search for “God”, pulled up a potpourri of hits.  It included things like: 

• A book about the demise of America
• Images of space that claim to contain glimpses of God
• The Wikipedia definition for God (of course)
• www.god.com (God’s website?)
• 50 Proofs that God is imaginary
• An interview with God
• A myspace hit about the group “Lamb of God”
• A journal containing scientific evidence for God’s existence
• www.godswarningtotheworld.com – a site about prophetic events and visions of Mary and Jesus. (Mary usually weeping)

What a hodge podge of sites and ideas about God.  Maybe I need to get a telescope to see God out there in space somewhere; or maybe we should begin evaluating these proofs that God is imaginary.  Thankfully we don’t have to do that. 

However, it seems there are as many ideas about God as there are people.   Not unlike a scene Paul encountered in ancient Athens.  He found all sorts of idols and philosophies about spirituality, God, gods, man, angels, etc.  He even found an idol to the “unknown god” (Acts 17). 

Using this inscription he proceeded to tell people about Jesus Christ.  He is no longer hidden, he was no longer being anticipated, and he was no longer in the tomb.  He had come, died and rose again.  All the ignorance up to this point God had put up with, but now the prophecy had been fulfilled and God was expecting everyone everywhere who had an “opinion” about God to reconsider.  Reconsider their views about God, themselves, their standing with Him, and this man called Jesus. 

His call is similar to us today.  Will we reconsider?  Will we rethink who He is?  Will we reconsider this man named Jesus? Will we contemplate His opinion of us!?  

Unlike a confusing search on Google for God, knowing Him is rather simple.  Paul told a man just before the Athens scene to, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved (Acts 16:31);”  sounds pretty straightforward.  

What do you believe about these things?  Do you need to reconsider?  Will you reconsider?  Some who heard Paul that day did.  What about you?
